Thread Count: What Is It and Why Does It Matter?

We see thread count everywhere and we assume that more = better, but is that always the case? Not necessarily.

First off, what is thread count? Thread count is the number of horizontal and vertical threads per square inch. As a general rule of thumb, the higher the number, the softer the sheet and the longer they’ll last, but you’ll want to stick to 200-800 thread count. Now, this does not mean that the 200-thread count sheets are any worse than the 800 — some finishes offer a super soft, higher thread-count feel, just like some 1000-thread count sheets use certain techniques and trickery to inflate the thread count, leading to a shorter lifespan and a rougher feel.

So maybe this didn’t exactly clear things up for you, but now you have an arsenal of knowledge to take with you whenever you need to buy bedding products. Don’t fall for the gimmicks and keep an open mind when choosing the right thread count for your bedroom.
